Answer Engine Optimization

Your buyers are asking AI. Does it mention you?

People now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini the questions they used to type into Google. Those answers name a handful of companies. If yours is not among them, you are not losing a ranking position, you are absent from the conversation entirely.

We measure where you stand today, show you which competitors appear instead, and give you the specific changes that move it.

What is answer engine optimization?

Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of making a brand visible in AI-generated answers. Where SEO targets ranked links, AEO targets the answer itself: being mentioned, recommended or cited when someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini a question in your market.

What is generative engine optimization?

Generative engine optimization (GEO) is the same discipline seen from the model side: improving how generative engines represent a brand. In practice AEO and GEO share the same levers, so we treat them as one service and measure both the answer and the sources behind it.

What we look at

Do AI assistants mention you?

We ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot the questions your buyers actually ask, and record what comes back. Not a sample of one: dozens of prompts across buying intent, comparisons, alternatives and problem-solving.

Where do competitors appear instead?

The useful finding is rarely that you are invisible. It is that a named competitor appears on the questions you should own, and we can show you which ones.

What sources do the models cite?

AI answers lean on a small set of pages. We identify which sources are being cited on your topics, and whether any of them are yours.

What on your site is holding you back?

Structured data, entity information, answerable headings, FAQ coverage, llms.txt, crawlability. The technical groundwork that decides whether a model can quote you at all.

Measuring the gap is the easy half

Plenty of tools will tell you an AI does not mention you. Closing that gap needs four things, and the third is where most agencies stop, because it needs a publication rather than a spreadsheet.

  • Answerable content on the questions buyers ask
  • Structured data and entity information a model can parse
  • Citations from publications the models already read
  • An author profile that establishes who is speaking

ModernTechLap is a working tech publication with an editorial team and a real audience. Getting published here is not a favour we do alongside the analysis, it is one of the levers the analysis points at.

What we do not promise

Nobody can guarantee that an AI assistant will mention a brand. The models are not ours, the ranking logic is not published, and the same question can return different companies on different days. Anyone promising placement is selling something they cannot deliver.

What we can do is measure where you stand across many questions and providers, show you the evidence, and tell you which changes are most likely to help and why. Where the honest answer is “this will take months and here is the order”, that is the answer you will get.
